Overview
A straight-chain primary bromoalkane with four carbon atoms.
The terminal carbon–bromine bond is less hindered toward backside nucleophilic attack than the corresponding bond in 2-bromobutane. Changing the nucleophile, solvent or temperature can change the balance between substitution and elimination; primary classification does not determine every reaction outcome.
