Overview
A branched four-carbon aldehyde and a constitutional isomer of butanal.
Its aldehyde carbon is bonded to hydrogen and an isopropyl group. Reduction gives 2-methylpropan-1-ol; oxidation gives 2-methylpropanoic acid. These changes transform the terminal functional group without moving the branch in the carbon skeleton.
