Overview
A branched carboxylic acid with the same formula as butanoic acid.
The carbon next to the carboxyl group carries two equivalent methyl groups. Deprotonation changes the carboxyl group into a carboxylate without changing that connectivity. The branched skeleton distinguishes this acid from its straight-chain constitutional isomer.
