Overview
A secondary alcohol with its hydroxyl-bearing carbon inside a five-membered ring.
Oxidation converts the alcohol site into cyclopentanone while preserving the ring. The two directions around this unsubstituted ring are equivalent, so the OH-bearing carbon is not stereogenic. A cyclic structure alone does not determine whether an alcohol is primary, secondary or tertiary.
