Overview
An unbranched six-carbon alkane with a flexible saturated carbon skeleton.
Its chain can adopt many rapidly interconverting conformations. A zigzag drawing represents one arrangement rather than a rigid molecular shape. Without a carbonyl, hydroxyl or carbon–carbon multiple bond, hexane lacks the corresponding polar or addition-reaction sites.
