Overview
An ester with a propanoyl fragment and an oxygen-bound methyl group.
Hydrolysis gives methanol and propanoic acid or propanoate. The molecular formula matches ethyl ethanoate, but the acid-derived and alcohol-derived fragments differ. Following the bonds on each side of the ester oxygen avoids assigning the wrong hydrolysis products.
