Overview

Ethenyl ethanoate / VAM

The acetate-bearing comonomer used with ethene to make EVA.

Its vinyl double bond can join a growing chain while the acetate group remains attached to the backbone. It is a starting molecule for polymer manufacture, not a substance added directly to a finished shoe. Its industrial feedstock trace combines ethene, ethanoic acid and oxygen. This unsaturated ester is not interchangeable with ethyl ethanoate.
